Assoc. Prof. Luís M. N. B. F. Santos is a distinguished physical chemist at the University of Porto, Portugal, where he is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry and Director of the Centre for Chemistry Research (CIQUP). His research focuses primarily on chemical thermodynamics and the physicochemical characterization of molecular and ionic systems, with particular emphasis on ionic liquids, thermophysical properties, phase equilibria, calorimetry, and their relationship to molecular structure. He has made significant contributions to the thermodynamic characterization and understanding of ionic liquids and related materials, combining precise experimental measurements with structural and computational approaches. Most notably, he was one of the pioneers in the study of the volatility of ionic liquids and, subsequently, protic ionic liquids, and developed specialized equipment and methodologies for investigating their vaporization behaviour.
