Event type: Workshop
Lecturer: Maker Institute

Description:

We won’t just talk about it—you’ll pick up a screwdriver and try your hand at understanding how a simple electrical circuit works and how to wire it correctly.

During this two-hour workshop, you’ll learn the basics of electrical wiring and how to work safely with electricity. You’ll find out what happens from the circuit breaker through the light switch to the light bulb, what each wire is used for, and why circuit breakers sometimes “trip.”

You’ll spend most of your time doing hands-on work—with tools, materials, and simulated scenarios. You’ll try your hand at wiring a simple lighting circuit, working with wires, and performing basic troubleshooting.

What will you try out?

  1. basic electrician’s tools and their proper use,
  2. electrical installation materials and different types of wires,
  3. how a simple electrical circuit works,
  4. wiring a light via a switch,
  5. how to read a simple wiring diagram,
  6. what causes a circuit breaker to trip and how to perform basic troubleshooting,
  7. how to work with electricity safely and responsibly.

Who is this workshop for?

For students who want to try something out with their own hands, are interested in technology and how the things around us work, or want to learn a practical skill they can use in everyday life.

No prior experience with electricity is required. The workshop is also suitable for complete beginners.
